1.0 out of 5 stars Does Not Heat Water, September 1, 2010

This review is from: Rheem RTE 3 Electric Tankless Water Heater, 1.5 GPM (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product never worked. I call Tech support and after a test with my multimeter THEY determined that I needed a new element, and told me that one was on the way. After a week, no element. I called to follow up and they told me that they now think that it does not need this element. I wasted a week waiting for a part that was never shipped.Customer service tried to convince me that they were doing me a favor by not shipping a part that would have not fixed my problem. However if I had not called I would have never known that it wasn't shipped.

I will be sending this item back to Amazon.com and purchasing a Bosch 2gal water heater

My husband and I went through a lot of trouble installing this heater exactly as instructed!! And...nothing! I wouldn't even call it a water "warmer"!! For some reason I thought Rheem was a good brand...WRONG!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous -- No warranty service, February 5, 2010

Less than 2 months after installation, this unit will not turn off. It has burst PEX tubing three times due to the overheat condition, and started to smoke and sizzle multiple times.

It will *not* turn off even with both in and out water valves closed, and we have to flip the breakers to render it safe.

That of course means no hot water -- kind of why we bought the unit to start with.

The company is using every excuse in the book to not honor the warranty. They want me to a) hire a technician (at my expense) to troubleshoot the item on site, b) install copper tubing (also at my expense - despite being reminded water hot enough to melt PEX is too hot for skin), c) move the setting to low (meaning lukewarm water), and send them a $100 deposit which upon return of the defective unit, at their discretion, they might refund "if the unit does in fact requires warranty service".

An honorable company would send a new unit and an RMA... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars 14 Degrees Short, February 22, 2010

This review is from: Bosch AE-9.5 PowerStar 1.5 GPM Point-Of-Use Indoor Tankless Electric Water Heater (Tools & Home Improvement)
I tested the AE-9.5. If it worked as advertised, it would be a great little piece of equipment - but it doesn't. It is advertised to achieve an 84 degree rise at .75 gallons per minute. The best that I could do after ten tests was a 70 degree rise. Here are my test results.

Incoming water - 48 degrees
Gallons per minute - .75 GPM
Heated Water Temp - 118 degrees

I did hit 125 degrees or 77 degrees once but not for .75 gallons per minute.

For my test, I set the AE-9.5 on a table about 30 inches off the floor. I wired the unit to 240 volts. Actual voltage, 242. The heated water was directed into a two gallon pail using a two foot section of hose. The distance from the unit to the pail was minimized so as not to affect the results. I used a sealed thermometer to measure the water temp. Each test ran for two minutes.

I called the Bosch support line for help but it was after hours and they weren't able to answer... Read more

This is a powerful tankless hotwater system. We placed two of them in our building in bathrooms that were over 100 feet from the hot water system with a tank. It used to take 2-3 minutes to get hot water, now it is only a few seconds and the water is warm enough to wash your hands.

The system is installed very easily and takes up little space.

5.0 out of 5 stars No More Cold Water Hand Washes, January 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Eemax EMT2.5 2.5-Gallon Electric Mini-Tank (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife has complained for ages about the length of time necessary to get hot water at our kitchen sink. I determined that it took 2 gallons of flow to get warm water, so this little 2.5 gallon heater was just the ticket, and small enough to fit under the sink along with the reverse osmosis filters and accumulator, disposer and all that. The heater itself works great and uses a standard 110V circuit so no special wiring is required. And for me, and this is a big AND, it is made in the USA!

5.0 out of 5 stars why did I wait 20 years?, March 14, 2011

This review is from: Eemax EMT2.5 2.5-Gallon Electric Mini-Tank (Tools & Home Improvement)
As with the first reviewer, our hot water heater is at the opposite end of the house as our kitchen, and it took more than a minute to get hot water. We had a recirculating pump on the hot water system in our precious house, but that turned out to be problematic and expensive as a retrofit for a multilevel house. And I wanted no part of a gadget that bleeds hot water into the cold water line - it throws away hot water and the cold water is hot when first turned on. This water heater was an ideal solution. It is fed by the hot water line and the hot water supply is essentially instantaneous and continuous, that is, the hot water from the main water heater arrives before the small tank is emptied. Because the main heater is set at a slightly higher temperature, the small electric heater does not even turn on.
The unit appears to be very well constructed and comes with detailed and clear instructions. Almost too detailed - I hope I don't need to replace the heater, thermostat, or... Read more

Everything about this tiny water heater is fantastic.

The unit itself, as well as the shipping speed, leaves nothing to be desired.

A+ in every way.
